The Spirit of Antichrist

All scripture is for all time and some is pointedly so. The warnings from God to the priests of ancient Israel are as meaningful today as then. All of Israel suffered when the priesthood sinned because priests were entrusted to minister the power of God for the people. Today, followers of Jesus compose a “royal priesthood” with each individual appointed a high priest enabled with the power of God. (1 Peter 2:9) Jesus entrusts the church, as a royal priesthood, with the power of his Spirit to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God.

“Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. (1Pe 2:5) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:” (1Pe 2:9)

But fickle, rebellious children wander and are susceptible to change. It is written there will be children who shall defect from the truth and grow cold to the Lord. Of them it is written they shall be a “…great host.” Indeed, they will become apostate; renounce their faith to God, the Son, the written word and the church. Like the errant children of old, they also will be subjected to great tribulation. Some will repent, paying with their lives to ensure their salvation. Others shall deny the Christ unto the end and incur their own destruction. Then the end shall come. This corrective purging and time of suffering for the end time church is referred to in the following passages.

“And he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered. (Dan 8:11-12)

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2Th 2:4)

“And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. (3½ yrs) And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.” (Rev 13:5-6)

“But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.” (Rev 11:2)

“And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; [3 ½ years] and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished” (Dan 12:7)

“And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.” (Dan 8:23-24)

“And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them:” (Rev 13:7)

“Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.[3½ years + 1 month) Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.” (Dan 12:10-12)

“Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days [6 years, 7 months, 6 days] then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” (Dan 8:13; Mat 24:22; Mk 13:20)
The Apostate Church

A great multitude of people will exchange their allegiance to the truth of God for the lies of the antichrist spirit. (2 Thess 2:11) But, some (the elect) will endure. (Mat 24:31) Under an evil spirit, apostates will flourish and put into practice the contravention of their former love for Jesus. Sin will become personified in the temple of God and many of its vessels will be given over to idolatry for merchandise. That multitude of former believers will become unbelievers. Many at ease ‘modern Christians’ become offended when they are warned that a once faithful believer can become a faithless unbeliever.

Reason it! There can be no apostasy if there is nothing to fall away from. The apostate, antichristian population of the world will consist of former devotees of Christ. If it is not possible to selfishly fall away from Jesus, then vain are the words of warning from our Lord that declare “…the love of many shall wax cold” Jesus is explicit about a time of offense and tribulation coming to the church. The following passages are indicators of the phenomenal occurrence known as the “…falling away…” They tell of the sufferings of the end time church, and of offense against God.

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (Mat 24:9-13)

For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be…For there shall arise false Christ’s and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Mat 24:21; 24:24)

The Church of Jesus

The words of Jesus are explicit concerning the condition of the churches during the time of the end. Seven times in his Revelation, Jesus variously warns the churches to repent and overcome. His words are equally applicable to present day conditions. Even so, they are given for a future time of desperate tribulation and offense against the Lord. If you can accept it, this is the purging of God; the refining fire. (Read Matt 13:18-43)

Ephesus – “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. (Rev 2:5; 2:7)

Smyrna – “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer…be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. (Rev 2:10-11)

Pergamos – Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. (Rev 2:16-17

Thyatira – And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And He that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star. (Rev 2:21-22, 26)

Sardis – Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. (Rev 3:3 & 3:5)

Philadelphia – Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. (Rev 3:11-12)

Laodicea – As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.…thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked…To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. (Rev 3:17; 19; 21)

To The Apostle John – And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Rev 21:6-8)

The Lord said Heaven and earth would pass away, but that his words would not. He warned his disciples to take note of their selves lest their hearts, “at any time” should become overcharged with gluttony, drunkenness or the cares of this life. He warned them lest the day of his return come upon them when they were not ready. He explained that his return would be like a trap for every soul on the planet. He told his disciples to watch their lives, praying always that they may be counted worthy to escape the vengeance of God and stand before the Son of man. (Lk 21:33-36) “And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?” (1Pe 4:18)

The Revelation of Jesus Christ is the revealed hope of the elect, who are variously represented as Israel, the church, the body of Christ, the people of God. Read these words of introduction for Messiah the Prince at the time of his revealing.

“Grace be unto you and peace from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed our sins in his own blood, and has made us kings and priests unto God and his father; to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Rev 1:4b-8)

“…Which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” These words represent the incredible means and power by which God expresses his purpose to the world. Throughout history he has revealed himself through events ages apart but incredibly interrelated, pertinent to each time of occurrence and with a prophetic eye gazing upon the final revelation in His written word. Events of the past, the present and beyond coincide in such a manner that it is impossible to be instructed by them and not know that He is, He was, and He is to come, the Almighty God!
Daniel’s Vision is the Revelation of Jesus Christ

“Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.” (Rev 22:7)

“Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision…he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.” (Daniel 8:16-17)

“And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.” (Daniel 8:26)

“Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.” (Daniel 10:14)

“And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.” (Dan 12:9)
The Words of Habakkuk

“Write the vision and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” (Habbakuk 2:2-3)

There is a common theme within these verses. It clearly reveals that it is the vision proper, the vision itself that shall be revealed in the last days before the end. But, the culmination and fruition of the various subjects, matters and circumstances that make up the vision will occur in a time beyond their disclosing, at the end of days.
The Old Testament declares:

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18)

In response, the New Testament declares from within the vision of the Revelation of Jesus Christ:

“Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” (Rev 1:3)

Daniel’s vision is the Revelation of Jesus Christ, given to the apostle John. The word Revelation ‘Apokalupsis’ properly means ‘nakedness’ from ‘apokalupto’ to uncover. It refers to something known but obscure; something covered up, hidden from view and then revealed by removing a covering.
